Ettenmoors

The Ettenmoors are a wild and desolate region in the northern part of Middle-earth, bordering the northern ranges of the Misty Mountains. They are characterized by bleak, windswept moors, rocky hills, and sparse vegetation. The area is known for its harsh climate, with cold winds and frequent storms making it an unwelcoming place for most travelers.

Historically, the Ettenmoors have been a largely uninhabited or sparsely populated area. However, they have been known to be a refuge for various creatures and peoples considered undesirable or dangerous. Orcs from the Misty Mountains are known to descend into the moors, and at various times, the region has been associated with darker forces. The notorious troll-king Grishnákh was said to have come from the Ettenmoors.

In the Third Age, the Ettenmoors were a barrier between the lands to the north and the Free Peoples' territories further south. While not a major focus of events in the War of the Ring, their proximity to the Misty Mountains and the Northern Waste meant they were a potential source of threat. The area remains a wild and untamed land, largely untouched by the civilizations of Middle-earth, and retains its reputation for being a dangerous and formidable landscape.
