Etiketit
Etiketit is a term used in Albanian to describe two related concepts that share a common etymology: etiquette and labeling. The form etiketit is the definite form of the noun etiket, borrowed into Albanian from Turkish etiket, which itself comes from the French word etiquette (and ultimately from Italian etichetta). In Albanian, etiket refers to both social etiquette—the commonly understood rules of polite conduct in social situations—as well as a label or tag affixed to an object, providing identification, information, or instructions. The context determines which sense is intended; in academic or cultural discussion, etiket typically means etiquette, for example when discussing ceremonial or formal behavior. In commerce or administration, etiket refers to a label, such as product labels, price tags, or instruction labels. The definite form etiketit is used when the speaker refers to a specific etiquette or label, while plurals follow the regular Albanian patterns for the noun etiket. The term has spread across Albanian-speaking communities, including Albania and Kosovo, and remains a common everyday word in both senses. See also: Etiquette; Label.
