Ethniu

Ethniu, sometimes rendered Eithne or Ethne, is a figure in Irish mythology best known as the daughter of Balor, the Fomorian king who leads the rival forces to the Tuatha Dé Danann. In the most common strands of medieval Irish narrative, Ethniu becomes the mother of Lugh Lámhfhada, a prominent hero of the Tuatha Dé Danann, by Cian mac Taillten, a member of the Tuatha Dé Danann. This parentage makes Lugh Balor’s grandson, a fact that frames the dynastic and prophetic motifs that run through the legends.
