Ethelburgas

Ethelburgas, also known as Ethelburga, was a medieval English saint and abbess. Born in the 7th century, she was the daughter of King Anna of East Anglia and her husband, King Æthelhere. Ethelburgas was raised in a royal household and received a significant education, which was unusual for a woman of her time. She was known for her piety and devotion to God, and she was particularly devoted to the Virgin Mary.

In her later years, Ethelburgas retired to a monastery in Suffolk, where she became an abbess. She is credited with founding several monasteries and churches, and she was known for her charitable works and her dedication to the poor and needy. Ethelburgas is also known for her role in the conversion of King Sigeberht of Essex to Christianity.

Ethelburgas died in 679 and was buried in the church of St. Mary and St. Peter in Bury St. Edmunds. She was later canonized as a saint, and her feast day is celebrated on October 19th. Ethelburgas is remembered for her piety, her charitable works, and her dedication to the poor and needy. She is also remembered for her role in the conversion of King Sigeberht of Essex to Christianity.
