EteläSavonia

Etelä-Savonia, or Southern Savonia, is a region in southeastern Finland. It is one of the 19 regions of Finland and is bordered by the regions of Northern Savonia, Kainuu, North Karelia, South Karelia, Kymenlaakso, Päijänne Tavastia, and Central Finland. The region's administrative center is Mikkeli.

The landscape of Etelä-Savonia is characterized by numerous lakes and forests, making it a popular destination for summer tourism and outdoor activities. The largest lake in the region is Saimaa, which is also the fourth-largest natural freshwater lake in Europe. The region's economy has historically been based on agriculture and forestry, but in recent decades, the service sector and technology industries have grown in importance.

Etelä-Savonia is known for its cultural heritage, including traditional Savonian dialects and cuisine. The region is home to several historical sites and museums, such as the Savonlinna Opera Festival, held annually in the medieval Olavinlinna castle. The population of Etelä-Savonia is relatively sparse, with most of the inhabitants living in the urban centers of Mikkeli, Savonlinna, and Pieksämäki. The region faces demographic challenges, including an aging population and emigration from rural areas. Despite these challenges, Etelä-Savonia remains an important part of Finland's cultural and natural landscape.
