Etanolgyártás, also known as ethanol production, is the process of converting biomass into ethanol, a type of alcohol commonly used as a fuel. The primary feedstock for ethanol production is sugarcane, corn, or other starch-rich materials. The process typically involves several stages: milling, fermentation, and distillation.

In the milling stage, the feedstock is ground into a slurry, which is then heated to break down the starch into simpler sugars. This slurry is then cooled and mixed with yeast, which converts the sugars into ethanol through a process called fermentation. The resulting mixture, known as beer, contains about 10-15% ethanol.

In the distillation stage, the beer is heated to separate the ethanol from the water and other components. The ethanol is then cooled and purified to remove any remaining impurities. The final product is a high-purity ethanol, which can be used as a fuel in internal combustion engines or as a biofuel additive.

Ethanol production has several advantages, including its renewable nature, its potential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and its ability to be used in existing internal combustion engines with minimal modifications. However, it also has some challenges, such as its relatively low energy density compared to gasoline and its potential to compete with food crops for land and water resources.

The global ethanol market is driven by increasing demand for renewable energy, government incentives for biofuel production, and advancements in technology that improve the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of ethanol production. Major producers of ethanol include the United States, Brazil, and the European Union.
