Esterbildung
Esterbildung, also known as esterification, is a chemical reaction in which an ester is formed. Esters are a class of organic compounds that are derived from an acid and an alcohol. The most common method of ester formation is the Fischer esterification, which involves the reaction of a carboxylic acid with an alcohol in the presence of a strong acid catalyst, typically sulfuric acid or hydrochloric acid. The reaction is reversible, and an equilibrium is established between the reactants and products. To drive the reaction towards ester formation, excess alcohol or acid can be used, or the water produced as a byproduct can be removed.
Another method for esterbildung is the reaction of an acyl halide or acid anhydride with an alcohol.
