Erzincan

Erzincan is a city located in eastern Turkey and is the capital of Erzincan Province. Situated in a fertile valley surrounded by the Munzur Mountains and the Kemaliye Mountains, the city has a long history dating back to ancient times. It has been an important settlement and strategic location throughout various historical periods.

Historically, Erzincan was a significant center for the Kingdom of Urartu, later coming under Persian, Roman, Byzantine, Arab, Seljuk, and Ottoman rule. The city's strategic position on trade routes contributed to its development and importance. It also played a role in the Silk Road trade. The region has experienced significant earthquakes throughout history, notably a devastating one in 1939 which caused widespread destruction and loss of life.
