Ervads
Ervads are a religious order within Zoroastrianism. The term "eravd" (or arvadh) refers to a priest who has completed a specific course of study and undergone certain rituals. Ervads are responsible for performing religious ceremonies, administering sacraments, and upholding the teachings of Zoroaster. Their role is distinct from that of a mobed, who generally holds a higher priestly rank and greater responsibilities. Ervads can also be referred to as athornans, which is a broader term for priests in the Zoroastrian faith. The training for an eravd typically involves learning sacred texts, rituals, and ethical principles. They are integral to the functioning of Zoroastrian communities, ensuring the continuation of religious practices and the transmission of spiritual knowledge. The specific duties and societal standing of an eravd can vary slightly depending on the particular branch or community of Zoroastrianism. However, their fundamental purpose remains consistent: to serve as spiritual guides and facilitators for the faithful.
