Erisündmused, also known as "Eris events" or "Eris incidents," refer to a series of notable occurrences involving the dwarf planet Eris, which was discovered in 2005. The most significant event related to Eris is its discovery, which led to a reclassification of Pluto as a dwarf planet. Eris was initially thought to be larger than Pluto, which sparked a debate about the definition of a planet. This debate culminated in the International Astronomical Union's (IAU) decision in 2006 to create a new category of celestial bodies called "dwarf planets," which included Pluto and Eris.

Another notable event involving Eris is its moon, Dysnomia. Dysnomia was discovered in 2005 and is notable for being the first moon discovered around a dwarf planet. The discovery of Dysnomia provided valuable information about the size and mass of Eris, which helped astronomers better understand the characteristics of this distant object.

Eris is located in the scattered disc region of the Solar System, beyond the orbit of Neptune. It has an extremely elongated orbit that takes it as far as 97.6 astronomical units (AU) from the Sun and as close as 37.9 AU. This orbit is highly inclined to the ecliptic plane, at an angle of about 44 degrees. Eris is composed primarily of rock and ice, and its surface is covered in methane ice, which gives it a reddish hue.
