Epäperioodiset

Epäperioodiset is a Finnish experimental rock band formed in 2010 in the city of Oulu. The group consists of vocalist and guitarist Jani Koskinen, drummer Mikael Saarinen, bassist Tuomas Helminen, and keyboardist Anni Huokko. Their musical style blends post‑rock, industrial, and ambient textures with complex rhythmic structures, often employing irregular time signatures and unconventional song forms. The band's name, which means “non‑periodic” in Finnish, reflects their interest in dynamic, non‑predictable compositions.

The first publicly released material was the self‑titled EP "Epäperioodiset" in 2011, distributed through a limited-run cassette and digital download. The same year the band announced a tour of the Finnish underground scene, supporting groups such as Lius & the Maun and The Paper People. Their debut full‑length album, "Aikakausi", recorded in 2012 at the Oulu Studios, reached number 18 on the Finnish independent albums chart. It was praised by the local press for its use of dissonant guitar lines and swirling synthesizers.

In 2015 the group issued the concept album "Mälly", which explores memory and time. The album became their most commercially successful release, peaking at number 8 on the Finnish main chart. 2018 saw the release of the single "Älä Otakaan", featuring a collaboration with vocalist Kerttu Virtanen. The track was used in a Finnish television series and received significant radio play.

Epäperioodiset have maintained a reputation for high‑energy live performances, often incorporating visual projections and improvisational elements. Despite a modest discography, the band remains a notable presence in Finland’s experimental music sphere. Their music has been cited as an influence by up‑and‑coming post‑rock acts in Nordic circles.
