Epäelastisuus

Epääelastisuus is a Finnish term that translates to inelasticity in English. It is a concept primarily used in physics and engineering to describe the behavior of materials that do not return to their original shape after a deforming force is removed. When an elastic material is stressed, it deforms, but upon removal of the stress, it regains its original dimensions. In contrast, an inelastic material undergoes permanent deformation.

This permanent change in shape is a consequence of the internal structure of the material. When subjected to stress beyond its elastic limit, the bonds within the material rearrange or break, leading to a non-reversible deformation. The degree of epääelastisuus can vary significantly between different materials.
