Epoksimonomeereja

Epoksimonomeereja, often referred to as epoxy monomers, are small molecules that contain at least one epoxide group. An epoxide group is a three-membered ring consisting of two carbon atoms and one oxygen atom. These monomers are the fundamental building blocks for epoxy resins, which are a class of thermosetting polymers known for their excellent adhesive properties, chemical resistance, and mechanical strength.

The reactivity of the epoxide ring is central to the function of epoxy monomers. Under appropriate conditions, typically in the presence of a curing agent or hardener, the epoxide ring can open and react with other molecules, leading to the formation of a cross-linked, three-dimensional polymer network. Common curing agents include amines, anhydrides, and thiols, each initiating different polymerization mechanisms and influencing the final properties of the cured epoxy resin.

A wide variety of epoxy monomers exist, differing in their chemical structure, molecular weight, and the number of epoxide groups they possess. Bisphenol A diglycidyl ether (BADGE) is one of the most widely used epoxy monomers, derived from bisphenol A and epichlorohydrin. Other examples include epoxy novolacs, cycloaliphatic epoxides, and glycidyl amines. The choice of epoxy monomer significantly impacts the viscosity, cure speed, glass transition temperature, and overall performance characteristics of the resulting epoxy material. These monomers find applications in coatings, adhesives, composites, electronics, and construction.
