Enstatiterich

Enstatiterich refers to igneous rocks that contain a high proportion of the mineral enstatite. Enstatite is a pyroxene mineral with the chemical formula (Mg,Fe)SiO3. It is the magnesium-rich end-member of the orthopyroxene solid solution series, which also includes ferrosilite. Rocks described as enstatiterich are typically ultramafic or mafic in composition.

These rocks are found in various geological settings. They can occur as intrusive igneous bodies, such as layered intrusions or cumulates, where enstatite crystals precipitate from a cooling magma. They are also found in volcanic rocks, particularly those erupted from mantle-derived magmas. The presence of abundant enstatite indicates that the parent magma was likely relatively magnesium-rich and potentially formed at high temperatures.
