Ensiferums

Ensiferums is a genus of gram-negative bacteria belonging to the family Rhizobiaceae. These bacteria are primarily known for their symbiotic relationship with legumes, where they reside within root nodules and fix atmospheric nitrogen into a form usable by the plant. This nitrogen fixation process is crucial for plant growth and reduces the need for synthetic fertilizers. Ensiferums species are widespread and found in soils globally. They are characterized by their rod shape and motility, often possessing a polar flagellum.

The genus was previously known as *Rhizobium* (sensu lato) but was reclassified based on genetic and phenotypic analyses. This reclassification aimed to create more distinct and accurate taxonomic groups. Ensiferums plays a significant role in agriculture, as inoculating legumes with these bacteria can enhance crop yields and improve soil fertility.
