Energinet

Energinet is a Danish state-owned transmission system operator responsible for electricity and natural gas transmission networks in Denmark. It ensures reliable energy supply, system security, market operation, and integration with European energy markets. The organization operates the high-voltage electricity grid, the natural gas transmission system, and manages cross-border interconnections to neighboring countries.

It was established in 2005 as the national transmission system operator for electricity and gas and was renamed Energinet in 2013.

Energinet is fully owned by the Danish state and reports to the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Utilities. It operates under Danish and European energy regulations and participates in the European networks ENTSO-E and ENTSOG, which coordinate electricity and gas transmission systems across member states.

The company oversees market operations for transmission capacity, grid planning and expansion, and ensuring secure interconnections. It also leads efforts to integrate offshore wind, expand inter-country links, and modernize the grid to support a low-carbon energy system.

As a central actor in Denmark's energy transition, Energinet coordinates with other transmission system operators in the Nordics and Europe to facilitate renewable deployment, energy storage, and cross-border trading.
