Endomeetriumis

Endomeetriumis is not a recognized anatomical term in standard medical or anatomical nomenclature. It may represent a misspelling, a neologism, or a hybrid intended to refer to the endometrium—the mucous membrane that lines the uterus. In published medical literature, the term is not used as a formal label, and reliable sources should be consulted for accurate terminology.

The endometrium itself consists of two principal layers: the functional layer (stratum functionalis) that lines the uterine cavity and is shed during menstruation, and the deeper basal layer (stratum basalis) that remains after menstruation to regenerate a new functional layer. The tissue contains glands and stroma, supplied by spiral arteries. The endometrium undergoes cyclic changes in response to ovarian hormones.

During the menstrual cycle, estrogen promotes proliferation of the endometrium in the first half, while progesterone from the corpus luteum induces secretory transformation in the second half, preparing the lining for potential embryo implantation. If fertilization does not occur, hormonal withdrawal leads to degradation and shedding of the functional layer.

Clinical relevance includes benign conditions such as endometrial hyperplasia and endometritis, as well as malignancies like endometrial carcinoma. It is important to distinguish the endometrium from endometriosis, a condition in which endometrial-like tissue exists outside the uterus.
