Endodoncist

An endodontist is a dental professional who specializes in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases and injuries of the dental pulp and periradicular tissues. Their primary area of focus is root canal therapy, commonly referred to as endodontic treatment. This procedure is necessary when the pulp, the soft tissue inside a tooth containing nerves and blood vessels, becomes inflamed or infected. Common causes of pulp inflammation or infection include deep decay, repeated dental procedures on the same tooth, cracks or chips in the tooth, or trauma to the tooth.

Endodontists undergo additional years of specialized training beyond dental school, focusing on the intricate anatomy of the root canal system and advanced techniques for saving teeth. They are skilled in diagnosing the source of oral pain and managing complex endodontic cases. Beyond root canal treatment, their expertise extends to endodontic retreatment, endodontic surgery (such as apicoectomy), and treating cracked teeth. Their goal is to relieve pain, eliminate infection, and preserve the natural tooth, thereby preventing the need for extraction and subsequent replacement with artificial teeth. They utilize specialized equipment and advanced imaging technologies to accurately diagnose and treat dental issues affecting the pulp.
