Endoceras
Endoceras is a genus of extinct cephalopods in the order Endocerida. It lived during the Ordovician period and is one of the better-known endocerids. Endoceras is typified by a long, straight shell (orthocone) with a disproportionately large siphuncle that runs the length of the shell. Inside the siphuncle, endocones—calcareous deposits forming cone-like segments—developed to aid buoyancy regulation and structural support for the shell.
The shell’s straight morphology and the prominent siphuncle suggest a lifestyle in which the animal occupied
