Enamussüsteeme

Enamussüsteeme refers to systems of governance or decision-making where the outcome is determined by the will of the majority. This is a fundamental principle in many democratic societies. In its simplest form, a majority is a number that is more than half of a total. For instance, if there are 100 votes, a majority would be 51 or more votes.

There are different types of majority systems. Simple majority, also known as plurality, means that a candidate or proposal wins if they receive more votes than any other single option, even if it's not more than 50% of the total. For example, in a race with three candidates, the one with 40% of the vote might win if the other two receive 30% each.

Another type is absolute majority, which requires more than 50% of all votes cast, or sometimes more than 50% of all eligible voters. This system ensures a broader consensus than a simple majority. Qualified majority, or supermajority, requires an even higher threshold, such as two-thirds or three-quarters of the votes. This is often used for significant decisions like amending a constitution.

Enamussüsteeme are intended to reflect the collective will of the people or a group. However, they can also lead to the "tyranny of the majority," where the rights or interests of minority groups are overlooked or suppressed. Therefore, many systems incorporate checks and balances, such as minority rights protections and constitutional safeguards, to mitigate these potential drawbacks. The specific rules and thresholds for majority decisions are crucial aspects of any political or organizational structure.
