Emäsdissosiaatio
Emäsdissosiaatio, also known as base dissociation, refers to the process where a basic compound in solution loses a proton or accepts an electron, thus breaking apart into ions. This phenomenon is a fundamental concept in acid-base chemistry and is directly related to the strength of a base. Strong bases, such as hydroxide ions, dissociate almost completely in water, releasing a high concentration of hydroxide ions and resulting in a high pH. Weak bases, on the other hand, only partially dissociate, establishing an equilibrium between the undissociated base and its conjugate acid and ions.
The extent of base dissociation is quantified by the base dissociation constant, Kb. A larger Kb value
