Emulssiovoiteiden

Emulssiovoiteet are topical medications formulated as emulsions, which are mixtures of two or more immiscible liquids, typically oil and water, with one liquid dispersed in the form of tiny droplets within the other. These formulations are designed to deliver active pharmaceutical ingredients to the skin for a variety of therapeutic purposes.

The stability of an emulsion is achieved through the use of emulsifying agents, which are surfactants that reduce the interfacial tension between the oil and water phases. This allows for the formation and maintenance of a stable dispersion. Emulsion creams are broadly categorized into two types: oil-in-water (O/W) and water-in-oil (W/O). In O/W emulsions, oil droplets are dispersed in a continuous water phase, making them lighter and easily spreadable, often feeling cool on the skin due to water evaporation. W/O emulsions, conversely, have water droplets dispersed in a continuous oil phase, resulting in richer, greasier textures that provide a more occlusive barrier and are better suited for very dry or damaged skin.

The choice between O/W and W/O emulsions depends on the properties of the active ingredient, the desired skin feel, and the intended therapeutic effect. Emulssiovoiteet are used to treat a wide range of dermatological conditions, including eczema, psoriasis, and fungal infections, as well as for general moisturizing and skin protection.
