Emulsiopolymeerit

Emulsiopolymeerit are polymers synthesized through emulsion polymerization. This process involves dispersing monomers in a continuous aqueous phase, stabilized by surfactants, and initiating polymerization with water-soluble initiators. The polymerization occurs within micelles or monomer-swollen polymer particles, leading to the formation of stable polymer latexes. These latexes consist of very small polymer particles suspended in water.

The key advantages of emulsion polymerization include efficient heat removal due to the aqueous medium, leading to high molecular weights and controlled particle size. The resulting latexes are often used directly in applications such as paints, adhesives, coatings, and paper manufacturing. Different types of surfactants and initiators can be employed to tailor the properties of the final polymer and the latex.
