Emboliseeriv refers to a process or substance involved in causing an embolism. An embolism occurs when a blockage, known as an embolus, travels through the bloodstream and lodges in a blood vessel, obstructing blood flow. This embolus can be composed of various materials, such as a blood clot, a bubble of air, a fragment of plaque, or even foreign material introduced into the circulation. The term "emboliseeriv" therefore describes something that has the capacity to form an embolus or to contribute to its formation and movement.

In a medical context, understanding embolising agents is crucial for diagnosing and treating conditions like deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, stroke, and heart attack. For instance, a loose blood clot forming in the leg veins is an embolising agent that can travel to the lungs. Similarly, cholesterol plaques can break off from artery walls, becoming embolising particles that can cause blockages in smaller vessels, leading to ischemia or infarction in affected tissues.
