Eläinpölytteiset is a Finnish term that translates to "animal-pollinated" or "zoochorous" in English. It refers to the process of seed dispersal by animals, a crucial ecological mechanism in many ecosystems. This method of dispersal involves plants producing fruits or seeds that are attractive to animals, either through their nutritional value, scent, or visual appeal.

Animals play a vital role in distributing plant seeds to new locations, thereby facilitating plant colonization, gene flow, and the maintenance of biodiversity. This interaction can occur in several ways. Frugivory, the consumption of fruits by animals, is a common method. Birds, mammals, and even insects consume fruits, and the seeds are then dispersed through their droppings.
