Eltalan

Eltalan is a coastal city and municipality in the western region of the fictional country of Veridia, on the continent of Lyria. It is the administrative center of Corin Province and an important commercial port.

The city sits at the mouth of the Nira River, facing a sheltered bay. The surrounding countryside features low hills and farmland, and the climate is Mediterranean, with hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters.

Eltalan traces its origins to a medieval trading post established in the 9th century. It acquired town privileges in the 12th century and gradually developed as a maritime hub, with later growth tied to regional port facilities.

The port handles container traffic and bulk cargo, while fishing and seafood processing remain important. Light manufacturing, including textiles and food products, adds to the economy. The city is connected by a national highway network, a regional rail line, and an international airport 25 kilometers away.

As of 2023, Eltalan has an estimated population of about 135,000. The community is ethnically and linguistically diverse; Veridian is the official language, with minority languages such as Arin and Kestari spoken in parts of the city. Education is anchored by Corin University.

The historic old town preserves medieval and Renaissance architecture. Notable sites include Eltalan Cathedral, the Old Fort of Corin, and the Harbour Lighthouse. The city hosts the annual Sea Festival in late summer and offers museums, markets, and waterfront promenades.
