Elsternwick

Elsternwick is a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, located 6 kilometres south-east of the Melbourne central business district. It is part of the City of Port Phillip. Elsternwick is a predominantly residential suburb with a mix of established homes and newer developments. The suburb is known for its vibrant retail strip along Glen Huntly Road, which features a variety of shops, cafes, restaurants, and a cinema.

The area was originally inhabited by the Yalukit Willam clan of the Boon Wurrung people. European settlement began in the mid-19th century, with the area developing as a residential district. Elsternwick's railway station, which opened in 1859, was a significant factor in its growth. Over time, Elsternwick became a popular place for middle-class families to settle.

Elsternwick retains many of its historic Victorian and Edwardian homes, contributing to its distinctive character. The suburb offers several parks and recreational facilities, including Elsternwick Park and the Elsternwick Nature Reserve. Its proximity to the city and its amenities make it a sought-after residential location. Elsternwick is also home to the Jewish Museum of Australia and the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art.
