Elokuvaformaatti

Elokuvaformaatti refers to the physical format used for showing films. It encompasses various parameters to ensure a seamless cinematic experience. The most notable aspect of this format is its resolution, which can be measured in projector capacity, measured in pixels, or aspect ratio.

Projectors are designed to accommodate different resolutions, whether for standard definition (SD) at a 4:3 or 16:9 ratio, or high definition (HD) in a 16:9 ratio. Full high definition (FHD) resolutions like 1080i are typically used for home theaters. Yet, the industry has moved towards 4K resolution, which allows for cinematic productions to be displayed in a higher clarity.

Cinematic formats are also defined by their capability to transmit images in different frame rates. The standard for movie theater projection is mostly 24 frames per second (FPS). This is in contrast to television formats, which are typically sold in a 25, 29.97, or 30 FPS format. For digital movie cameras and projectors, additional frames are captured in addition to those rendered, then either discarded or projected. The speed of capturing and projecting multiple frames can raise issues for attendance.

In the case of 3D films, the technical specifications will differ from 2D formats. This is done by rendering two separate images, then merging them in a single format.
