Ellentétében

Ellentétében is a Hungarian linguistic and philosophical term used to indicate that a statement or concept is examined in its opposite sense or in opposition to another proposition. The expression functions as a marker within scholarly prose to signal a counterpoint rather than modify the proposition directly with negation. It is mainly found in analytical writing, argumentation, and philosophical translations.

Etymology: The term combines ellentét (opposite, antonym) with the suffix -ében, which marks the adverbial phrase meaning "in" or "in the context of." The result is a fixed expression meaning "in its opposite sense" or "in the opposite perspective."

Usage and examples: In formal Hungarian, ellentétében attaches to a noun phrase or clause to signal a contrastive interpretation. It is distinct from simple negation (tagadás) because it frames the analysis from the opposite position rather than negating the proposition directly. Example: A kérdés ellentétében fogalmazva a következtetést cáfolni lehet. (If formulated in the opposite sense of the question, the conclusion can be refuted.) Egy másik példában az álláspont ellentétében bemutatott érvelés erős ellenérveket ad. (In the argument presented in the opposite sense of the position, strong counterarguments are provided.)
