Elintasojen

Elintasojen, also known as the "Eastern Front," was the largest and most devastating theater of World War II. It spanned from 1941 to 1945 and involved the Axis powers, primarily Germany and its allies, against the Soviet Union. The front stretched over 3,500 kilometers, encompassing vast territories including present-day Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Poland, and parts of Romania and Finland. The Eastern Front is notable for its immense scale, the brutal conditions, and the high casualty rates on both sides. Key battles included the Battle of Stalingrad, the Battle of Kursk, and the Battle of Berlin. The war on the Eastern Front resulted in the deaths of an estimated 26 million Soviet citizens and 8.8 million German soldiers, making it one of the deadliest conflicts in human history. The front also saw significant advancements in military technology and tactics, including the use of tanks, artillery, and air power. The war's end in Europe in 1945 marked the conclusion of the Eastern Front, leading to the division of Germany and the beginning of the Cold War.
