Electronenwolk

Electronenwolk is a term used in quantum mechanics to describe the probability distribution of an electron's position around the nucleus of an atom. Instead of electrons orbiting the nucleus in fixed paths like planets around the sun, quantum mechanics suggests that their location is uncertain. The electronenwolk represents this uncertainty by showing the regions where an electron is most likely to be found.

The density of the cloud indicates the probability of finding the electron in a particular area. Denser regions mean a higher probability, while sparser regions indicate a lower probability. The shape and size of the electronenwolk are determined by the electron's energy level and angular momentum. These distributions are often referred to as atomic orbitals.

The concept of the electronenwolk replaced the older Bohr model of the atom, which depicted electrons in discrete orbits. The electronenwolk is a more accurate representation based on the principles of quantum mechanics and the Heisenberg uncertainty principle. It is fundamental to understanding chemical bonding and the behavior of atoms and molecules.
