Electromagnetically

Electromagnetically is an adverb derived from electromagnetism, the branch of physics that describes electric and magnetic fields and their interactions. It is used to indicate that a process, observation, or effect arises from electromagnetic phenomena, such as fields, waves, or interactions with charged matter, rather than from other forces.

In practice, descriptors like electromagnetically driven, electromagnetically excited, or electromagnetically induced are common in physics and engineering. For example, atoms or ions can be electromagnetically excited by light, and charged particles can be accelerated by electromagnetic fields. Electromagnetic waves—light, radio waves, X-rays—propagate electromagnetically and enable communications, sensing, and imaging. In quantum optics, electromagnetically induced coherence or electromagnetically induced transparency describe interference effects produced by coherent electromagnetic interactions between light and matter.

The term is grounded in the framework of Maxwell's equations, which govern how electric and magnetic fields propagate and interact with charges. These equations explain the propagation of electromagnetic waves, energy transfer, and the forces on charges, classically summarized by the Lorentz force law.
