Eksporditulu

Eksporditulu (export revenue) is the income earned from selling domestically produced goods and services to foreign markets. In Estonian usage the term refers to the revenue generated from exporting activities and is a key concept in both business and macroeconomic analysis. At the national level eksporditulu sums the export receipts of domestic producers and contributes to the current account and to GDP through net exports (exports minus imports). At the firm level it denotes the sales revenue derived from exporting to customers abroad.

Measurement and scope: Eksporditulu includes both merchandise exports and services exports. Re-exports—goods imported and then shipped to other countries—may also be counted as part of a country’s exports, depending on the accounting rules. Revenue is typically recorded in the domestic currency and converted for reporting in international statistics; price, volume, and exchange-rate movements all influence the level of eksporditulu over time.

Economic significance: Strong eksporditulu supports economic growth, employment, and foreign currency earnings. It affects the trade balance and can influence currency stability. Factors that shape eksporditulu include global demand, competitive productivity, exchange rates, transportation and logistics, and trade policies. Governments often pursue export promotion and diversification strategies to raise eksporditulu and reduce reliance on a narrow set of sectors or markets.

Limitations and considerations: Eksporditulu measures revenue, not profit or cash flow, and does not reflect costs, taxes, or margins. For services, measurement can be complex due to cross-border rules and residency definitions. Exchange-rate volatility and payment terms can also affect the realized revenue from exports.
