Eirekisteröityjä, often translated as "registered residents" or "permanent residents," refers to individuals officially recorded as living in a particular municipality or area within Finland. This registration is a fundamental aspect of Finnish civil administration and has several practical implications for residents.

The Eirekisteröityjä status is managed by the Digital and Population Data Services Agency (Digi- ja väestötietovirasto). When a person moves to a new municipality in Finland, they are legally obligated to register their new address within a specified timeframe. This process is crucial for various services, including healthcare, education, social benefits, and taxation.

Being registered as an Eirekisteröityjä ensures access to local public services. For example, one's right to attend a public school or receive healthcare from a local health center is often tied to their registered residency. It also plays a role in electoral rolls, determining where a person can vote.

The system differentiates between temporary stays and permanent residency. While visitors or short-term workers might not be considered Eirekisteröityjä, those intending to reside in Finland for an extended period, including citizens and non-citizens with the right to reside, are expected to register.
