Eikon

Eikon is a term with multiple uses. In classical Greek, eikon means image or likeness and is the root of the word icon, used in religious art and philosophy. In modern commerce, Eikon is best known as a financial information platform developed by Thomson Reuters and now operated by Refinitiv, a subsidiary of the London Stock Exchange Group.

In finance, Eikon refers to a comprehensive data and analytics platform that provides real-time market data, historical data, news, analytics, and trading workflow tools. The platform relies on the Elektron data feed and is offered as a desktop application, a web version, and mobile apps. Core components include real-time quotes, charting and screening tools, company fundamentals, and integrated news. The Eikon Excel add-in enables data import into spreadsheets, and various APIs allow programmatic access to market data through the Refinitiv Data Platform.

Ownership and branding have evolved since its launch. In 2018, Thomson Reuters sold a majority stake in its financial and risk business to Blackstone, forming Refinitiv. In 2021, London Stock Exchange Group acquired Refinitiv, placing Eikon within LSEG’s product portfolio. The platform remains a staple for financial professionals, often positioned as a competitor to the Bloomberg Terminal through its combination of data, analytics, and workflow features.
