Eichsfeld

Eichsfeld is a historical region in Germany, located in the present-day states of Thuringia and Lower Saxony. It is characterized by its rolling hills, agricultural landscapes, and distinctive cultural identity. Historically, the Eichsfeld was a territory of the Archbishopric of Mainz for many centuries, influencing its religious and administrative development. The region is known for its strong Catholic traditions, which have persisted despite the predominantly Protestant surrounding areas.

Geographically, the Eichsfeld is situated in the southern part of the Lower Saxon Hill Country and the northern part of the Thuringian Basin.
