Egyensúlyhoz

Egyensúlyhoz is a Hungarian directional suffix used to denote movement toward a state of balance or equilibrium. It attaches to nouns and nominalized forms that denote a state (for example egyensúly, hőegyensúly, kémiai egyensúly) to express that a process or system is progressing toward that state. The construction is common in scientific and technical language to describe dynamic processes that approach a steady state.

The suffix is formed from the base word egyensúly plus the suffix -hoz, which indicates direction toward something. In Hungarian, the choice among -hoz, -hez, and -höz depends on vowel harmony; here, -hoz is used because the noun ends with a back vowel. The phrase can be used with verbs of motion or change such as közeledik (approaches), törekszik (tends toward), or eléri (reaches) (though eléri usually governs a direct object: eléri az egyensúlyt). Example: A rendszer a hőegyensúlyhoz közeledik; A reakció az egyensúlyhoz közelít.

Egyensúlyhoz expresses direction toward an ideal or proximal end state and is often preferred in formal or technical contexts when the emphasis is on approaching a balance rather than naming a concrete target. In some contexts it can be replaced by a more general expression like egyensúly felé to convey the idea of “toward balance” without specifying the type of state.
