Edl
Edl is not a single term; in different domains it stands for different things. In film and video editing, an Edit Decision List (EDL) is a record of edits used to assemble or reconstruct a sequence. An EDL typically lists the edits with reel numbers, timecodes, and edit actions, and is used to guide conforming and offline-to-online workflows. While modern systems increasingly rely on XML-based formats such as AAF, EDLs remain in use for compatibility and archival purposes. In insurance and risk management, Estimated Date of Loss (EDL) denotes the date on which a loss event is believed to have occurred, based on investigations, logs, or other evidence; this helps determine coverage, liability, and the timing of claims. Because the acronym is context-dependent, other organizations or disciplines may define EDL differently.
