Eberfeld

Eberfeld is a town located in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is situated on the Wupper River, approximately 30 kilometers east of Düsseldorf. Eberfeld was historically a significant industrial center, particularly known for its textile manufacturing and later for its chemical industries. The town has a rich history dating back to the Middle Ages.

In 1929, Eberfeld merged with several surrounding municipalities, including Barmen, Elberfeld, Vohwinkel, and Ronsdorf, to form the city of Wuppertal. While Eberfeld no longer exists as an independent administrative unit, its name is still commonly used to refer to the western part of Wuppertal, particularly the city center and its surrounding districts. The former Eberfeld is characterized by its impressive Wilhelminian-era architecture, a testament to its prosperous past.

The current Eberfeld area within Wuppertal boasts a vibrant urban landscape with a mix of residential areas, commercial centers, and cultural institutions. Key landmarks include the historic town hall, numerous churches, and a well-developed public transport system, including the famous Wuppertal Suspension Railway which runs through parts of the former Eberfeld. The area continues to be an important economic and cultural hub within the larger Wuppertal conurbation.
