This is distinct from preterm birth, which occurs before 37 weeks, and full-term birth, which is generally considered to be between 39 weeks 0 days and 40 weeks 6 days. The distinction between earlyterm and full-term is relatively recent, with definitions evolving as research has provided more insight into the developmental stages of a fetus.
