ESSM

The Evolved SeaSparrow Missile, or ESSM, is a medium-range, surface-to-air missile developed by Raytheon. It is designed for use by naval vessels to defend against a variety of anti-ship threats, including aircraft, helicopters, and other missiles. ESSM is an upgrade of the earlier RIM-7 Sea Sparrow missile, incorporating significant improvements in range, guidance, and countermeasure resistance.

ESSM utilizes a dual-seeker system, combining active radar homing with an infrared seeker for enhanced accuracy and terminal guidance. This allows it to effectively engage targets in various electronic warfare environments. The missile is launched from a vertical launching system (VLS) or a dedicated launcher on board ships. Its modular design allows for easy integration with different ship platforms.
