ERNs
ERNs stands for European Reference Networks. These are virtual networks that connect rare and complex disease experts from across Europe. Their primary goal is to improve access to diagnosis, treatment, and research for patients with these conditions. ERNs bring together healthcare providers, researchers, and patient organizations to share knowledge, best practices, and collaborate on research projects. This collaboration aims to overcome geographical barriers and ensure that patients, no matter where they live in Europe, can benefit from the highest level of expertise. Each ERN focuses on a specific group of rare diseases or conditions, such as rare cancers, bone and joint diseases, or neurological disorders. The European Commission supports ERNs financially and through legislative frameworks, recognizing their importance in tackling the challenges posed by rare and complex diseases. Patients are an integral part of ERNs, participating in governance and decision-making processes.
