ENCgegevens
ENCgegevens is a Dutch term referring to the digital information contained in Electronic Navigational Charts (ENCs) used in marine navigation. ENCs are vector chart datasets produced by hydrographic offices and other authorized bodies to support safe navigation aboard ships equipped with electronic chart display and information systems (ECDIS). An ENC consists of geometric features and associated attributes that describe coastlines, depths, hazards, navigational aids, traffic separation schemes, restricted areas, port facilities, and other information essential for route planning and situational awareness.
ENCgegevens are standardized to ensure interoperability. The IHO publishes standards such as S-57 for legacy ENCs
Usage: In ECDIS, ENCgegevens are used for display, planning, and risk assessment. They can be layered with
Licensing and access: ENCgegevens are typically subject to licensing agreements. Some regions offer open ENC data
Quality and limitations: The accuracy depends on data source, update frequency, and calibration. Non-compliant or outdated
