EMCsuojausvaatimukset refers to electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) protection requirements in Finnish. These requirements ensure that electronic and electrical equipment does not cause excessive electromagnetic interference to other devices and that it is not unduly affected by electromagnetic interference from its environment. The goal of EMC is to make sure that devices function as intended in their intended electromagnetic environment.

In Finland, as in other European Union member states, EMC protection requirements are based on EU directives, primarily the EMC Directive (2014/30/EU). This directive mandates that electrical and electronic apparatus placed on the market must comply with essential protection requirements concerning electromagnetic compatibility. Manufacturers are responsible for ensuring their products meet these requirements.

Compliance with EMC protection requirements typically involves two key aspects: emissions and immunity. Emissions refer to the electromagnetic energy that a device intentionally or unintentionally radiates or conducts. Limits are set to prevent these emissions from interfering with other equipment. Immunity refers to a device's ability to operate without degradation in the presence of expected levels of electromagnetic disturbance, such as electrostatic discharge, radiated fields, and conducted disturbances.

Manufacturers can demonstrate compliance through various methods, including self-assessment, using harmonized European standards, or by involving a Notified Body for conformity assessment. Products that meet the EMC requirements are usually marked with the CE mark, indicating their compliance with relevant EU directives. Adherence to these requirements is crucial for the reliable operation of electronic devices and the overall functioning of modern technological systems.
