EIF2B1
EIF2B1, also known as eukaryotic translation initiation factor 2 subunit 1, is a gene that encodes a protein involved in the initiation of protein synthesis. This protein is one of the five subunits of eukaryotic translation initiation factor 2 (eIF2), a crucial complex that plays a central role in the regulation of translation. The eIF2 complex binds to initiator methionyl-tRNA and GTP, and then ferries this ternary complex to the 40S ribosomal subunit. This binding is a rate-limiting step in the overall process of protein synthesis.
Mutations in the EIF2B1 gene have been associated with a group of rare genetic disorders known as
