EGRsysteem, or Exhaust Gas Recirculation system, is a technology used in internal combustion engines to reduce the formation of nitrogen oxides (NOx) in the exhaust gases. NOx emissions are a significant contributor to air pollution and are regulated by environmental laws in many countries. The EGR system works by recirculating a portion of the exhaust gases back into the engine's intake manifold. This recirculated exhaust gas dilutes the incoming air-fuel mixture, reducing the combustion temperature and thus lowering the formation of NOx.

The EGR system typically consists of several components, including an EGR valve, a sensor to monitor the recirculated gas flow, and a control unit to regulate the valve's operation based on engine parameters. For example, diesel engines often use EGR systems more effectively than gasoline engines due to their higher compression ratios and different combustion characteristics. Additionally, the system's performance can be affected by factors such as engine load, speed, and temperature.

EGR systems are widely used in modern vehicles to meet emissions standards and reduce the environmental impact of transportation. They are particularly important in regions with strict emissions regulations, such as the European Union, where they are a key component of meeting Euro emission standards. However, the use of EGR systems can also have some drawbacks, such as increased fuel consumption and potential engine wear due to the recirculation of exhaust gases. Therefore, the design and implementation of EGR systems require careful consideration of these factors to balance emissions reduction with other performance aspects.
