ECOC

ECOC, the European Conference on Optical Communication, is a leading annual conference in the field of optical communications and photonics. It gathers researchers, engineers, and industry professionals to report on the latest advances in fiber-optic technologies and related components and networks. The conference is organized by the European Optical Society (EOS) in collaboration with academic institutions, industry partners, and sponsors, and it rotates among European host cities. It is considered Europe’s premier forum for optical communications research and development and complements the Optical Fiber Communication Conference (OFC) held in North America.

The program covers high-capacity optical transmission, coherent and advanced modulation formats, wavelength-division multiplexing, photonic integration, silicon photonics, network architectures, components and subsystems, sensors, and related DSP techniques. It also includes tutorials, keynote talks, and industry sessions, as well as an exhibition or demonstrations in many editions.

Papers presented at ECOC undergo peer review and are published in the conference proceedings, which are widely disseminated through major scientific databases. The event attracts attendees from universities, national labs, and the telecommunications industry and has historically informed European research agendas through its technical tracks and plenary talks. In response to changing travel and health considerations, ECOC has adopted hybrid formats in recent editions to support remote participation while maintaining in-person engagement.
