Dúhovky
Dúhovky is a Slovakian term that translates to "irises" in English. It most commonly refers to the colored part of the eye, which is responsible for controlling the size of the pupil and thus the amount of light reaching the retina. The color of the dúhovka is determined by the amount and type of melanin pigment present in the iris stroma. Brown eyes have a high concentration of melanin, while blue eyes have very little. Other colors, such as green and hazel, result from intermediate levels of melanin.
The intricate patterns and unique coloration of each dúhovka make it a distinctive feature of an individual.
