Dómstafar
Dómstafar is a term originating from Old Norse, often translated as "doom staffs" or "judgment staffs." These were not literal staffs used for physical punishment, but rather symbolic objects associated with legal proceedings and the administration of justice in ancient Germanic and Norse societies. Their exact nature and function are subjects of scholarly debate, as surviving evidence is scarce and often open to interpretation.
In some contexts, dómstafar may refer to the staffs held by chieftains, judges, or other authority figures
Another interpretation suggests that dómstafar were associated with the casting of lots or other divinatory practices
