The Dáil Éireann, often referred to simply as the Dáil, is the lower house of the Oireachtas, which is the bicameral legislature of Ireland. The upper house is the Seanad Éireann. The Dáil is the more powerful chamber and is directly elected by the people of Ireland through a system of proportional representation. Its primary role is to legislate, scrutinise government actions, and approve the budget.
